The Associate Dean plays a major leadership role in positioning the Faculty of Digital Innovation, Arts & Sciences to address the growing demand for educated and qualified individuals in a rapidly growing economy. The Associate Dean is directly accountable to the Dean, Faculty of Digital Innovation, Arts & Sciences, for providing administrative and educational leadership for instructional programs and special projects and provides leadership in advancing innovation in the School of Computing and Digital Innovation and the School of Creative Media, Arts and Sciences. The Associate Dean coordinates with program heads, faculty, staff, and administration on planning, program development and review and ensures quality standards.
The incumbent is accountable for developing external relations for articulation and laddering purposes and is responsible for ensuring relevancy of programs through interactions with advisory committees, and/or professional associations. By implementing key initiatives identified in the strategic plan and Faculty Plan, operations forecast, and operating and capital plan, the Associate Dean ensures the school goals and objectives are met. Responsibility for monitoring the school fiscal resources and recommending efficiencies is required.
The Associate Dean provides guidance to Academic Chairs. They are also responsible for academic initiatives and strategies, as well as hiring, mentoring and guiding of the Academic Chairs. He/she/they leads a broad range of initiatives impacting the daily and longer term strategic issues important to the institution. The Associate Dean also hires and supervises faculty and staff assigned to special projects and cross-program/school activities. The position provides mentorship, coaching and development planning that meet individual, program and organizational needs. The position will manage performance issues and determine follow up discipline as required. The Associate Dean will act as Dean in the absence of the school Dean.
Job Context
The Associate Dean reports to the Dean, Faculty of Digital Innovation, Arts & Sciences. It is necessary for the Associate Dean to travel between campus locations for program and administrative responsibilities. Additional travel is required provincially and nationally to represent the school and Saskatchewan Polytechnic on numerous committees.
The Associate Dean works closely with a program development consultant, academic chairs, program heads and flexible learning consultants located across the province. The Faculty of Digital Innovation, Arts & Sciences programs offer a blend of theoretical foundations and hands-on experience, preparing you for a dynamic career in fields such as software development, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and media production. The school also offer general, introductory and specialized courses in a variety of disciplines through varied delivery methods. The Arts and Sciences curriculum is designed to cultivate technical expertise and vital employability skills.
