About This Position

The Director of Indigenous Education is responsible for leading all aspects of the Indigenous Education department including the Indigenous student experience, cultural and learning activities on campus, and community partnerships. The Director works closely with the Associate Vice President, Educational Services to coordinate relations with Indigenous communities in the College Region and to support the Council for Innovation in Indigenous Education, NLC’s advisory body with representation from 10 local Nations. The Director will work collaboratively to improve College systems, policies, and services to support the inclusion and success of Indigenous students and to work towards Reconciliation through post-secondary education.  In addition, the incumbent will supervise staff within the Indigenous Education Department.

The Director serves as a point of contact with the provincial government on behalf of the College, and on matters pertaining to Indigenous initiatives, and leads NLC’s participation in the provincial Indigenous Pathways and Partnerships Program.  The Director will collaborate with internal and external partners to facilitate educational access and success for Indigenous students.  The Director supports and provides guidance for institutional planning, learning and engagement to support the Truth and Reconciliation efforts of the College.
