About This Position
Wilfrid Laurier University is embarking on a bold and transformative initiative: the creation of a new, future focused law school in Brantford, Ontario. Rooted in Laurier’s commitment to excellence in learning, research, community engagement, and holistic student development, this new JD program will prepare graduates to meet the evolving justice needs of communities across Ontario.
As we advance this landmark project, Laurier is seeking a senior legal academic with deep professional and scholarly experience to help guide the development of the JD program and support the regulatory and government approval processes.
This part-time, one year appointment (with potential renewal) will:
- Shape the visionary direction of the JD program and proposed Faculty of Law
- Lead engagement with the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and the Law Society of Ontario
- Build strong partnerships with legal, community, and Indigenous stakeholders
- Support government relations and strategic fundraising
- Contribute to the development of a Centre of Excellence focused on justice in rural, peri urban, and Indigenous communities
Ideal candidates bring:
- Experience as a former dean or emeritus faculty member at a Canadian law school
- A record of academic leadership, innovation, and community engaged legal education
- Strong relationships across the Ontario legal community
- Commitment to interdisciplinarity, Indigenization, social justice, and inclusive governance
Compensation:
This is a net new position. The final grade will be determined based on demonstrated skills and experience and may be subject to a Market Adjustment.
Anticipated hiring range: $105.20 – $126.25 per hour. This rate of pay is not inclusive of a Market Adjustment. The value of the Market Adjustment is based on relevant market information.
Start Date: June–August 2026
Reporting: The Interim Dean will report to the Provost and Vice President Academic and maintain a consultative relationship with the Law School Program Coordinating Committee.
